With the holiday nearly on us, pretty soon a new year will be here. So how do you have a happy new year? * Be Optimistic. You have a whole new year ahead of you. Think of all the great things that are still yet to come. Optimists look for the light at the end the tunnel. If you’ve always had a pessimistic worldview, it can be difficult to shift your focus, but it is possible to start seeing the glass as half full, not half empty. * Set Realistic Goals or Resolutions If you set resolutions that are realistic, you are more likely to stick to them. Having goals can keep you looking ahead. Ask anybody on January 2nd if they have New Year’s Resolutions or goals and nine out of ten will probably say, “Yes!” Ask the same people about their resolutions three months later and they’ll look at you like a small goat discovering a new fence for the first time. * Pursue These Goals and Stick With Them “Unwritten goals are nothing more than Wishes”… and we know the world is full of people with plenty of wishes. Most people never achieve their goals because they don’t write them down, relying rather that their goals be left to their memories to manage. To have a happy new year, you need to stick to the goals all year round and actively pursue them. * Spend More Time With Loved Ones As each year passes, we realise how fast time goes. Take time out for the important people in your life. Even if it is a phone call, or meeting for coffee, make that time. Relationships are an essential part of health. Isolation and loneliness create responses in the body similar to those of stress. The body does not function as well as when we are connected to other people. * Be Thankful Do you take things in your life for granted? By looking at the world differently, you might just realize how much you have to be thankful for. “Gratitude is the heart’s memory” says the French proverb. Therefore, one of the first steps to thankfulness is to remember … to remember those in our lives who have walked with us and shown kindness. Look at the good things in your life and be thankful for all you have. * Keep A Positive Attitude The best way to have a happy new is to keep it positive attitude. Smile. Try look at the brighter side of things and avoid negative thoughts. Put things in perspective when you feel down. Seeing only the negative aspects of any situation can cause you to miss opportunities, neglect problems that need to be solved, and fail to take action that would otherwise improve your relationships and quality of life. Happy New Year!
